(Kuala Lumpur, 16th) Police have confirmed that a youth from Sarawak is suspected of being recruited as a drug mule by an illegal group. He was arrested last week while attempting to pass through Hong Kong airport carrying 3 kilograms of cannabis buds.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department Director, Datuk Husin, said police received confirmation from Hong Kong law enforcement regarding the arrest of the 19-year-old man.
In response to inquiries from Bernama, he said the suspect arrived at Hong Kong airport on July 9, when customs officers discovered 3 kilograms of cannabis buds in his luggage.
He also stated that initial investigations revealed the man has no criminal record in Malaysia.
Earlier, Hong Kong Customs issued a statement saying the man departed Kuala Lumpur, transferred via Singapore, and flew to Hong Kong. Upon arrival, his luggage was inspected by customs officers who found approximately 3 kilograms of cannabis buds inside, valued at 500,000 Hong Kong dollars (about 260,000 ringgit).
