Producer Endured 5 Years, Reveals Namewee's Dark Past in Anger

On June 2, Namewee denied drug use or possession on Facebook, even revealing he had received anonymous blackmail letters. In response, Malaysian police personally refuted this statement, asserting that there had been no reports concerning Namewee being blackmailed.

Since his debut, Namewee has been embroiled in numerous controversies—from insulting the national anthem in 2007, the 'Fragile' incident in 2021, to last year's April Fool's 'fake death' uproar. Now, he's further implicated in the female influencer murder case, leading to people joking that 'Wikipedia even has a dedicated page for his controversies,' with as many as 30 related incidents.

Now, a former collaborator has come forward to expose more dark history. Producer Zhang Yuanhan, who had filmed multiple MVs for him, lashed out in the early hours of the 3rd on Facebook, criticizing Namewee for 'ridiculously low budgets' and a fundamental lack of respect for professionalism, angrily declaring, 'I've endured these frustrations for over five years,' and describing working with him as a 'hellish experience.' One of the works he produced was the MV 'China Pain' starring Xie Youxin, which immediately triggered heated discussions when the news broke.

Zhang Yuanhan noted in a lengthy post that he had shot multiple MVs for Namewee, 'helping you with works, chasing streams—Your YouTube revenue is so high, but what the hell kind of pay do we get for staff?' He complained that Namewee's quotes were unreasonably low, even earning him criticism from peers. He slammed that every time a shoot for Namewee came up, everyone was super disgruntled: 'Who processes all these emotions? It’s me, the producer, taking it all in.'

He mentioned an occasion scouting locations in the rain, trudging through water in boots and catching a cold, while Namewee simply said 'don’t feel like going' and cancelled the rescout, making Zhang furious—'I just about punched you right then.' Although the work was eventually finished, he has refused Namewee’s invitations ever since, 'because you absolutely don’t respect professionalism or understand the true value of the crew’s talent and sacrifice.' Zhang Yuanhan ended with: 'This post is to vent for all the colleagues who helped me finish works for you in the past.' The post quickly sparked discussion among netizens.
