(Kuching, 16th) — The haze situation in Sarawak has improved, with the Air Pollution Index (API) showing a significant decrease. The number of areas at unhealthy levels has dropped from 9 yesterday to just 3 as recorded at 11am today.
Currently, only Serian, Samarahan, and Kuching remain at unhealthy air quality levels in Sarawak.
Thanks to a heavy downpour in Kuching yesterday afternoon, the API dropped from 163 recorded at 5pm yesterday to 132 as of 11am today.
Among the three unhealthy areas, Serian’s index remains the highest at 162, followed by Samarahan at 155.
Air quality in other areas has noticeably improved, with Sri Aman dropping from unhealthy levels yesterday to 90 today, returning to the moderate level.
According to readings from the Air Quality Index Management System, the API for other areas is as follows: Sarikei at 85, Samarahan at 84, Miri at 80, Sibu and Miri Industrial Training Institute both at 77, Bintulu at 76, Mukah and Limbang both at 67, and Kapit at 53— all within moderate levels.
