KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Pakistan have shared views on the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful solutions in addressing current geopolitical developments and security challenges.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the matter was discussed during his meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and a courtesy call on the chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilan, on the second day of his official visit to Islamabad.
Saifuddin Nasution said he also shared Malaysia’s experience in prioritising dialogue and constructive engagement through ASEAN to safeguard regional peace and stability.
He said the meetings also provided an opportunity to exchange views on the close Malaysia-Pakistan relationship, which is based on trust, mutual respect and strong bonds between the people of both countries.
“We also discussed the importance of expanding ties between parliamentary institutions and the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations,” he said in a post on Facebook today.
Saifuddin Nasution said he also had the opportunity to visit the Parliament Museum to learn about the history of parliamentary democracy in Pakistan, including the development of its constitutional framework and the country’s parliamentary institutions.
“Malaysia and Pakistan share a strong and longstanding friendship. Exchanges at the leadership and institutional levels such as these are important to ensure that the relationship continues to grow, thereby strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries,” he added.
