BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Brunei are continuing to strengthen bilateral ties through the 27th Meeting on the Implementation of the Exchange of Letters (EOL-27), which was held here today.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the meeting was co-chaired by him and Brunei Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Datuk Seri Setia Erywan Mohd Yusof.
He said the meeting discussed various issues concerning bilateral relations, including land and maritime boundaries between the two countries.
“We also discussed the establishment of a Search and Rescue (SAR) mechanism, and we will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on SAR, as well as measures to facilitate movement for the people of Brunei, Sarawak and Sabah,” he told reporters at a hotel here today.
On the land boundary, Mohamad said the meeting was informed that the two countries had completed about 50 per cent of the boundary demarcation.
“The existing boundary is already there, but we want to carry out the demarcation because there are various circumstances and factors on the ground that need to be taken into account.
“We will harmonise this in accordance with the 2009 Terms of Reference (TOR) and the report to be submitted by the technical committee on the ground,” he said.
