The global car carrier ship market is booming, and China’s shipbuilding industry has set a new record. According to the WeChat official account of CCTV News, on the 28th, the world’s first 10,000-vehicle-class dual-fuel car carrier, built by CSSC GSI, was delivered in Nansha, Guangzhou. The launch of this giant vessel has also filled the shipyard’s production schedule all the way to 2030.

This ship is 230 meters long and 40 meters wide, featuring a total of 14 garage decks. It can flexibly carry electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles, and heavy trucks, holding an astonishing maximum of 10,800 vehicles in a single trip. The ship is also equipped with the latest green fuel system, meeting the most recent international environmental requirements.

According to CCTV News, the formal delivery of the world’s first 10,000-vehicle-class dual-fuel car carrier marks that China has fully mastered the construction technology of this type of ship and maintains a leading position globally in this niche market.

In the first quarter of this year, China exported 2.226 million cars, an increase of 56.7% year-on-year, and the new energy vehicle market continues to maintain rapid growth. The reporter found that the rapidly growing demand for car exports has also driven global shipping market demand for car carrier vessels. By the first quarter of 2026, China will have delivered 11 car carriers, up 9.5% compared to the same period last year.

At CSSC GSI, car carriers are being hurriedly built in the docks, with scheduling already reaching 2030. With global demand for car trade continuing to rise, the shipyard has taken orders for over 40 car carrier ships in total, among which the 10,000-vehicle-class ships have been especially favored by the market since their release.

Zhang Fuli, technical manager for the 10,800-vehicle car carrier at CSSC GSI, stated that currently there are a total of 14 orders for the 10,800-vehicle ships. Observing the company’s construction trend, they started with 7,000-vehicle ships, then progressed to 8,600-vehicle ships, and now to 10,800-vehicle ships, gradually moving towards larger vessels, which help to lower transportation costs.
