Russian Presidential Aide Ushakov reported on the evening of the 29th that Russian President Putin and U.S. President Trump held a telephone conversation that day, during which they exchanged views on topics such as the White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting incident, the situation in Iran, and the Ukraine issue.
Ushakov stated that at the start of the call, Putin strongly condemned the recent assassination attempt against Trump at the White House Correspondents' Dinner and expressed his support for Trump.
Ushakov pointed out that during the conversation, Putin briefed Trump on the situation regarding Russia's special military operation and said that Russia was ready to declare a ceasefire during Victory Day. Trump expressed his support for this. Putin stated that since the beginning of 2025, Russia has transferred more than 20,000 bodies of fallen soldiers to Ukraine, but has only received over 500 bodies of Russian soldiers from the Ukrainian side.
Putin also stated that the established goals of the special military operation will definitely be achieved, but Russia prefers to achieve these goals through negotiations. He believes that it is the Ukrainian side that is artificially prolonging the conflict.
Ushakov said that Trump shared his views on the Middle East situation with Putin during the call. Putin believed that Trump’s decision to extend the ceasefire with Iran and the surrounding region was correct and would help stabilize the situation. Putin also stated that options involving ground military action against Iran would be completely unacceptable and extremely dangerous.
Ushakov indicated that this conversation was initiated by the Russian side, lasted more than one and a half hours, and was conducted in an open and pragmatic manner by both parties.
