(Washington, 11th) US Treasury Secretary Besent said that his two-day economic and trade talks with the Chinese delegation were fruitful, and officials from both sides are continuing negotiations in London.
The US and Chinese negotiators began trade talks on Monday (June 9th) local time in London, UK, marking the second round of formal negotiations since the outbreak of the Sino-US trade war.
AFP quoted a US official reporting that Besent had to leave the venue on Tuesday (10th) evening to return to Washington due to a congressional hearing appearance. However, US Commerce Secretary Lutenik and Trade Representative Greer will continue negotiations with the Chinese delegation as needed.
The Chinese delegation includes Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng.
Lutenik is participating in the Sino-US trade talks for the first time. During an interview with Bloomberg TV earlier on Tuesday, he stated that the talks were progressing smoothly.
US President Trump mentioned on Monday, the day the talks started, that he received good news from London but noted that "China is not easy to deal with."
The two delegations held their first round of talks from May 10th to 11th in Geneva, where they agreed to a 90-day trade truce and mutually reduced tariffs. The talks in London are expected to focus on the issue of China's rare earth exports.
