US Intelligence: China Has No Intention to Attack Taiwan Next Year, No Set Timetable for Unification

According to foreign media reports, on the 18th, US intelligence agencies released their annual Global Threat Assessment report, assessing that China currently has no plans to launch military action against Taiwan in 2027, nor has it set a specific timetable for achieving unification.

The report points out that although China’s leadership has repeatedly stated that it does not rule out the use of force to achieve unification if necessary, and has warned it will counter what it sees as US attempts to contain China’s development using Taiwan, the overall assessment is that Beijing still prefers to advance its unification goals through political, economic, and other non-military means. The report states that at present, there are no indications that China has formulated concrete plans to use force against Taiwan in 2027.

The report also states that the US intelligence community simultaneously points out that China hopes to gradually expand its influence over Taiwan under feasible circumstances, with the ultimate goal of unification, while avoiding the use of force where possible.

The report also reiterates earlier US military assessments that the People’s Liberation Army of China is continuously enhancing its military capabilities, with the centenary of the army’s founding in 2027 as a key milestone, aiming to possess the capability to attack Taiwan and win if necessary. This involves modernization of naval and air forces, missile systems, and joint operational capabilities.

Analysis indicates that the Taiwan Strait issue remains one of the core topics of strategic competition between China and the United States. The report mentions that Beijing continues to express strong dissatisfaction with US moves to support Taiwan, viewing them as key measures to contain China’s rise.

Against this backdrop, the US side believes that China will maintain a balance between military deterrence and non-military means, keeping up pressure on Taiwan on the one hand, while avoiding triggering a full-scale conflict prematurely on the other.

Chinese Embassy in the US Has Yet to Respond

Regarding the latest US assessment, the Chinese Embassy in the US has not yet responded to the contents of the report.

Beijing has repeatedly emphasized in the past that the Taiwan issue is China’s internal affair, opposes any external interference, and reserves the right to take all necessary measures.
