The conflict between the US and Iran has caused oil prices to soar. CPC Taiwan has been absorbing the price increases and has already lost NT$3.3 billion (RM406 million) in the past two weeks.

According to China Times News Network, on the 18th the Education and Culture Committee of the Legislative Yuan invited the Nuclear Safety Commission to give a special report on “The Planning and Promotion Status of Restarting Operations of Our Country’s Nuclear Power Plants” and to be available for questioning.

In response to lawmakers’ concerns about petroleum issues, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Lai Chien-hsin said that the ministry would respect the professional review of the Electricity Price Review Committee at the end of March.

Lai Chien-hsin said that during the Middle East conflict, work meetings would include sensitivity analysis and that they would also explain to committee members the government’s key initiatives for stabilizing prices.

He added that CPC Taiwan had lost NT$3.3 billion in the past two weeks, and that the Ministry of Economic Affairs was raising funds to assist. Ensuring sufficient supply and stable prices is the government’s work objective.
