New Breakthrough in China's Solid-State Batteries: TaiLan New Energy: Removing the Anode, Leaving Only the Cathode

Recently, a new Chinese battery company, TaiLan New Energy, announced a strategic cooperation agreement with Nandu Power Supply to jointly promote the large-scale application of solid-state batteries in the energy storage and civilian sectors. TaiLan Technology emphasized that they have announced a clear plan and schedule for this cooperation, proposing the concept of “material reduction manufacturing.” Starting from the separator and part of the electrolyte, they aim to eventually remove the anode, leaving only the cathode, and are moving towards achieving the world record for the largest single unit capacity and highest energy density.

According to a report by Kuai Technology, TaiLan New Energy stated that the goal of technological innovation is to achieve large-scale implementation. Only with the capability for mass production can industrial development be truly driven. For the mass production process of solid-state batteries, TaiLan New Energy has announced a clear plan and timetable, proposing the concept of “material reduction manufacturing,” and setting a “4321” roadmap for their solid-state battery technology system.

The report said that on the basis of the current "four main materials" of traditional liquid lithium-ion batteries, the separator and some electrolytes are first removed, marking the first phase of mass production of semi-solid-state battery products. Next, the electrolyte is completely removed for all-solid-state batteries, which will first be applied in some niche professional fields, such as low-altitude aircraft and portable consumer electronics products. Finally, the anode is removed, leaving only the cathode.
