(Seria, 9th) On June 4, 2026, enforcement officers from the Ministry of Labour carried out an operation codenamed “Usai 142/2026” in Tutong District, aimed at strengthening enforcement efforts and ensuring employers comply with the Employment Order (Chapter 278).
During an inspection of a fresh food packaging and processing factory, the team found the factory in violation of five provisions under the Employment Order (Chapter 278), potentially infringing on the rights of multiple local and foreign workers. Specific violations include: Chapter 10, failing to provide employees with a written employment contract; Chapter 39(1), employer delaying wage payments for more than seven days beyond due date; Chapter 39(2), employer failing to pay overtime wages; Chapter 44, making deductions from wages in violation of regulations under the Employment Order (Chapter 278); and Chapter 64, requiring employees to work on rest days.
Further investigation will be conducted on violations of the Employment Order (Chapter 278). If verified, the employer may be fined up to BND 1,000 for each offense.
If the employer refuses to pay the fine, prosecution will follow.
The Ministry of Labour hereby reminds all employers to always comply with the provisions of the Employment Order (Chapter 278) to safeguard the welfare of their employees. This includes: providing a written employment contract signed by both employer and employee; paying wages on time, and no later than seven days after wages are due; paying overtime wages if employees work more than eight hours per day or 44 hours per week; making wage deductions according to legal regulations; and paying double wages or granting a day off for work performed on rest days.
