Besides revising resumes and sending out countless job applications, a new trend is emerging in Hong Kong—praying to the “Offer God.”
Man Mo Temple in Sheung Wan has recently gone viral online, with netizens calling it “Hong Kong’s most powerful job-seeking temple.” Many people have shared that after praying there, they’ve received job offers, turning this century-old temple into a new hot spot for young visitors.
The hype got even bigger when the temple introduced a limited-edition merchandise item—the “Offer God Wishing Card.” The card features a chibi version of Wen Chang Dijun (God of Literature and Culture), reimagined as a workplace guardian deity. On the back, it says “High Pay & Generous Salary,” striking a chord with every worker’s wish. Each card sells for about HK$18 (around 9 Malaysian Ringgit), and sold out instantly. After being restocked, it sold out again within two days, becoming the hottest good luck charm recently.
The three steps to boost your luck have also been revealed:
- Purchase an “Offer God Wishing Card”
- Go to the main hall’s incense burner and walk around it three times clockwise for a “fire blessing”
- Place the card in your wallet or ID holder and carry it with you
Many people believe this can boost their luck in job hunting, helping them get offers, promotions, and pay raises all at once.
However, the temple reminds everyone that such rituals mainly provide psychological support and confidence—the real key to success is still your own effort. If you do land your ideal job, don’t forget to return to the temple and give thanks.
