(Manila, 7th) — According to a report by the Philippine News Agency, Malacañang Palace spokesperson Claire Castro pointed out that President Ferdinand Marcos has long been aware of rumors about certain groups attempting to instigate a coup, but he is not worried and continues to trust in the loyalty of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police.
During a press conference at the Presidential Palace, she said: “The president was already aware of this matter even before the protest actions on September 21, as some small groups had raised similar ideas at that time.”
Castro quoted Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Brawner and Chief of Police General Nartatez as saying that both had reaffirmed their continued allegiance to the Constitution and the chain of command, so the public need not worry.
She said that President Marcos fully recognizes the professionalism and dedication of the country’s security forces. “He acknowledges the excellent performance of the Armed Forces, the National Police, and all military and police personnel, and deeply believes that they will uphold justice and fulfill their duties.”
As for whether the Palace would regard the military personnel’s “contacts” as acts of inciting rebellion or treason, Castro said that authorities are conducting an investigation.
“We will thoroughly look into what transpired, and if it is determined that someone is responsible, we will hold them accountable in accordance with the law,” she added.
