(Sibu, 4th) — The Sarawak Royal Navy Veterans Association (PVTLDM) Sarawak Branch will be sending representatives to Penang on November 16 to attend the annual “Heroes’ Day” commemoration ceremony held at the Penang Cenotaph Monument.
The Sarawak Branch chairman, retired Warrant Officer Class 1 Unyok Dasi, stated that this annual commemorative event is organized by the Penang Veterans Association (PVA), and this year is the first time the Sarawak Branch has been invited to participate.
He pointed out that the association will send a five-member central committee delegation, including himself, to depart for Penang a day before the event and join other veterans in attending, enhancing the ceremony.
“We thank the organizers for the invitation. For us, this invitation is a great recognition and honor for our branch, and we very much look forward to participating in the commemoration with our friends from Penang’s veterans community,” Unyok said during an interview on the 2nd of this month (Sunday).
He added that through this opportunity, the Sarawak branch also hopes to strengthen ties and cooperation with the Penang veterans participating in the activity.
Unyok revealed that earlier on September 21, they were also invited to attend the Heroes’ Day ceremony organized by the Malaysian Chinese Veterans Association (MACVA) at the National Monument in the federal capital.
Recently, he also led a delegation to visit the Reserve Army Support Committee (JAKPAW) — the 510th Territorial Army Regiment, where they met with Honorary Major (Hon) Wilson Ling Beng Lung in his office for discussions.
During the visit, both sides discussed the future direction of the association, events for this year, as well as project plans and cooperation for the coming year.
