Andy Lau Receives Honorary Doctorate, Praised as a 'Self-Made Legend'

Superstar Andy Lau (Wah Zai) has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Hong Kong Baptist University, with the university praising Lau for his outstanding professional achievements and remarkable contributions to society.

The conferment ceremony was held on the 10th, during which Baptist University described Lau's story as a self-made legend; born and raised in Hong Kong, he forged his own path through hard work, demonstrating that the city offers unlimited opportunities for those with ambition and ability.

The university also highly praised Lau's achievements in both acting and singing, saying his voice not only resonates throughout China but also echoes across the global Chinese community. In film, he has appeared in over 160 movies and has won the Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Actor three times, as well as the Golden Horse Award for Best Actor twice.

Baptist University noted that Lau has given back to society not only through the film industry, but also via his charity foundation, which includes generous donations to disaster relief efforts and educational causes for children in impoverished regions of China, participation in fundraising events, and special concern for people with disabilities.

After the ceremony, Lau attended the "Heartfelt Dialogue with Dr. Andy Lau" session, where he interacted with more than 700 Baptist University students and faculty members. The dialogue also featured director and 2023 honorary Doctor of Letters recipient Ann Hui, who joined Lau in sharing insights from years of film collaboration. Together, they discussed their career journeys and rich life experience, providing valuable inspiration to the audience.
