(Bandar Seri Begawan, 13th) Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, met with President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China last night.
During the meeting, the Crown Prince emphasized the long-standing friendly relations between Brunei and the People’s Republic of China. This friendship predates the establishment of diplomatic ties and has been continually nourished by historical bonds, closely linking the two countries.
The People’s Republic of China has always been a steadfast partner for Brunei. The close cooperation in trade and investment as well as active high-level exchanges have further consolidated this relationship.
The Crown Prince emphasized that both sides have agreed to establish the Brunei–PRC Community with a Shared Future Strategic Partnership by 2025. This fully reflects the far-sightedness displayed by His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei and President Xi Jinping in deepening mutual trust and respect.
On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, this official visit is of great significance, helping to further strengthen bilateral relations and laying a solid foundation for deepening exchanges and cooperation.
Maintaining an open, inclusive, and rules-based multilateral system remains key to ensuring long-term stability and prosperity. In this regard, the Crown Prince stated that Brunei and the People’s Republic of China are working closely together to address these challenges in a constructive and coordinated manner.
The support provided by the People’s Republic of China, including through the ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations, continues to bring significant benefits to the region.
Although it has been five years since Brunei, as the 2021 ASEAN Chair, upgraded the dialogue relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, this partnership continues to bring tangible benefits to the region.
The Crown Prince concluded by congratulating President Xi Jinping for hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in China in November 2026 and expressed Brunei’s steadfast support and best wishes for the summit’s preparations.
