(Local News, Miri, 21st) In conjunction with the upcoming Christmas, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is implementing the 2025 Christmas Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme and has announced the highest selling prices for controlled items in the Miri and Marudi areas, effective from December 23 to December 27, 2025, for a period of five days.
The aim of this scheme is to stabilize market prices during the festive season, protect consumer rights, and ensure adequate market supply, while preventing profiteering during the holidays.
According to information from the Miri branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, a total of 14 items in the Miri and Marudi areas are under price control, covering meat, vegetables, and imported agricultural products. These include live old chicken, chicken wings, imported bone-in mutton, live pigs, pork (belly and lean-fat meat), imported cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, green bell peppers, red chilies, imported potatoes, large red onions, and large yellow onions.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living reminds all traders that they must strictly comply with the relevant regulations, including not selling controlled items above the stipulated maximum price, posting pink price tags, ensuring sufficient market supply, and using verified weights and measures.
The authorities also emphasized that any violation of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 will face strict enforcement action. Individuals found selling items above the maximum price may be fined up to RM100,000 or face imprisonment of up to three years, or both, and may also be fined up to RM50,000; companies may be fined up to RM500,000 or fined RM250,000.
If failing to post pink price tags, individuals may be fined up to RM10,000 or fined RM5,000, while companies may be fined up to RM20,000 or fined RM10,000. If prices are not displayed at all, individuals may be fined up to RM50,000, while companies may be fined up to RM100,000.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living calls on the public to report any violations by traders via the hotline 1-800-886-800, WhatsApp 019-848 8000, the e-Aduan system, or email, in order to jointly uphold a fair trading environment during the festive season.
