An explosion occurred at a shipyard on Staten Island, New York City, on the 22nd, resulting in one death and 35 injuries.
Sotz, an official from the New York City Fire Department's Emergency Medical Services, stated at a press conference that the injured include one civilian and 34 firefighters and emergency responders.
New York City Mayor Mamdani also pointed out at the press conference that one fire official is in critical condition and one firefighter is seriously injured.
Mamdani said that more than 200 emergency responders were present at the scene dealing with the incident. Although the fire triggered by the explosion has been brought under control, fire conditions persist. Once the blaze is extinguished, the fire department will conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.
