(Kuala Lumpur, 16th) Datin Seri Lin Yuan, who has been missing for over two months after being abducted, has seen no breakthrough in her case. Today, her family publicly urged the police to explain the progress of the investigation, questioning whether the enforcement agency has made every effort to track the case. They also expressed concern that the case has yet to be reported to the International Criminal Police Organization.
Lin Yuan's family representative, lawyer Sangeet, issued a statement on Monday noting that although the police have recorded statements from 49 people, including Lin Yuan's husband and children, they have yet to find any new leads. Over the past six weeks, the family has proactively provided more information than the police requested, but has not received substantial feedback from the police.
She revealed that several weeks ago the police informed the family that a vehicle involved in the case was located near the Thai border, but they have yet to release forensic test results on the items inside the car or update the direction of further investigation.
“Considering that Lin Yuan might have been taken out of the country, the fact that the police have yet to notify Interpol leaves the family puzzled about what exactly the police are waiting for.”
Sangeet also posed six key questions, including whether the police have thoroughly investigated relevant officers from the anti-corruption agency, whether they know the nature of the information Lin Yuan was going to provide to the anti-corruption agency, whether statements from related persons involved have been recorded, and whether the police have adhered to standard operating procedures for missing persons cases and sought professional assistance.
She stated frankly, “The police have clearly not taken this serious disappearance case seriously, nor do they have the willingness to conduct a truly thorough investigation.”
“With selective enforcement, the police only focus on certain cases while ignoring others. This is not only negligence but also deprives Lin Yuan of her basic rights as a citizen.”
Previously, another representative lawyer, Sivananthan, revealed that although CCTV footage clearly captured the process of Lin Yuan being intercepted and taken by several vehicles, the police have still not been able to trace her whereabouts or clarify the case.
According to existing information, Lin Yuan was scheduled to go to the Putrajaya headquarters of the anti-corruption agency on April 9 to assist in an investigation related to money laundering. However, while taking a ride service (Grab), her vehicle was intercepted by five cars midway, and Lin Yuan was forcibly taken away, with no news since.
CCTV footage shows the vehicles involved include a Toyota Camry, a Perodua Myvi, Nissan Almera, and Teana. Despite multiple statements from the police indicating that the investigation is ongoing, the family is worried that the delay will further diminish the chances of solving the case. They urge the police to expedite action and cooperate with Interpol as soon as possible to track down the case.
