Taiwan 'Radical Independence' Party Willing to Participate in Unification Negotiation Process; Taiwan Affairs Office: Cross-Strait Unification is Inevitable and Will Happen

(Taiwan, 28th) Regarding the recent statement by Taiwan's 'radical independence' party, 'Formosa Alliance', expressing willingness to consider participating in the process of cross-strait unification negotiations, Chen Binhua, spokesperson of China's Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, stated on the 27th that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait will ultimately be unified, and unification is inevitable.

At a regular press conference held by the Taiwan Affairs Office in Beijing, a reporter mentioned that the Taiwanese 'Formosa Alliance' published an open letter saying that, under the condition of a clear legal commitment to 'Taiwanese rule in Taiwan and high degree of autonomy', the party would consider adjusting its fundamental position, considering inclusion into the governance framework of the People's Republic of China and participating in the cross-strait unification negotiation process. Public opinion in Taiwan believes this represents the collapse of the dominoes of Taiwan independence.

Chen Binhua stated: "We are willing, on the shared political foundation of upholding the 1992 Consensus and opposing Taiwan independence, to engage in dialogue and consultation with political parties, groups, sectors, and people from all walks of life in Taiwan regarding the development of cross-strait relations and the future of the nation, so as to jointly advance the process of the motherland's unification."

Regarding the fact that the communication mechanism between the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) and Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) has been stalled for 10 years, with Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council saying the reason is the imposition of unacceptable political preconditions by the Mainland, and that it was the other side's decision to suspend it, Chen Binhua responded that in 1992, ARATS and SEF reached the 1992 Consensus embodying the 'One China' principle, which clearly defined the nature of cross-strait relations. It was on this political foundation that the two organizations began negotiations and signed a series of agreements, from which compatriots on both sides of the strait have benefited.

He stated that the Democratic Progressive Party authorities stubbornly adhere to the separatist position of Taiwan independence, refuse to recognize the 1992 Consensus, and unilaterally undermine the political foundation for cross-strait dialogue and negotiation. This is the fundamental reason for the suspension of talks between the two organizations, as well as the root cause of the tense and turbulent situation in the Taiwan Strait.

There are rumors that the mainland will no longer allow Ma Ying-jeou to visit. Chen Binhua refuted this, stating that such claims are purely groundless, utterly baseless rumors.

He pointed out that in recent years, the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation has carried out a series of cross-strait exchange activities, promoting exchanges and interactions especially among young people on both sides. Compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are Chinese, and are one family; the trend of becoming closer and united cannot be changed by any force.
