(Bandar Seri Begawan, 4th) His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei, in a royal address delivered today at the 1447 Hijrah Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration organized by the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation, stated that artificial intelligence (AI), as a new trend driving global development, should be utilized in an inclusive, ethical, and effective manner to promote national progress and social well-being.
His Majesty pointed out that this year's celebration theme, "AI Innovation: Driving Social Development," reflects the crucial role AI plays in shaping the future world. Therefore, AI must be wisely utilized to ensure its development brings positive impacts to society, rather than widening gaps.
His Majesty emphasized that AI development should not be measured solely from a technological perspective, but also considered from the angles of humanity, fairness, and sustainable development. Artificial intelligence should be used to expand opportunities and enhance human creativity, rather than diminish human capabilities or deepen social inequality.
Speaking on the country's developmental direction, His Majesty stated that priority should be given to areas that directly benefit people's lives, including strengthening public services, improving the quality of education, enhancing the healthcare system, and promoting the development of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, while also nurturing talents with relevant skills.
His Majesty noted that these developmental directions align with Brunei's vision of becoming a Smart Nation and are consistent with the "Brunei Vision 2035."
Additionally, His Majesty called on all relevant parties, including government agencies, private enterprises, technology sector operators, financial institutions, the education sector, and the youth, to strengthen cooperation and coordination, working together to build a technologically literate, resilient, and competitive society.
His Majesty stated that, in facing future challenges, the participation of all parties is crucial to ensure that AI can be developed in a responsible and ethical manner, fully unleashing its potential and bringing long-term benefits to the nation and its people.
