China to Build 10,000 5G Factories by 2027

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China stated that China will build 10,000 5G factories by 2027 and develop no less than 20 pilot cities for the integration of "5G + Industrial Internet."

According to reports by China News Service and Economic Observer, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China has issued the "Implementation Plan for Upgrading the '5G + Industrial Internet' 512 Project" (hereinafter referred to as the "Implementation Plan"), which proposes the above information.

On the 30th, a representative from the Information and Communication Administration of MIIT discussed the "Implementation Plan," stating that developing "5G + Industrial Internet" not only provides new solutions for industrial digital transformation but also offers vast development opportunities for 5G, and presents a Chinese solution for a new model of industrial network development.

The representative introduced that in 2019, MIIT issued the "5G + Industrial Internet 512 Project Promotion Plan." Currently, China has over 17,000 "5G + Industrial Internet" projects, with the price of industrial 5G modules dropping to 200 RMB (123 Ringgit), a 90% decrease from the initial commercial stage.

The representative said that "5G + Industrial Internet" is primarily developing in ten major industries, including electronic equipment manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, steel, and mining, forming twenty typical application scenarios such as remote equipment control, machine vision inspection, and unmanned intelligent patrols, and building 700 high-level 5G factories. Cities like Nanjing, Wuhan, and Qingdao have begun constructing the first batch of "5G + Industrial Internet" integration application pilot cities.

The representative noted that the "5G + Industrial Internet" has now entered a new stage of large-scale development. Although challenges remain, such as insufficient industry supply and high comprehensive application costs, which pose challenges to the development of "5G + Industrial Internet," the acceleration of 5G-A technology, the rapid empowerment of artificial intelligence technologies in new industrialization, and the increasingly active exploration of independent 5G private networks bring new opportunities for the development of "5G + Industrial Internet." To address the new stage of "5G + Industrial Internet" development and face new demands and challenges, the "Implementation Plan" has been researched and introduced.

The representative pointed out that the "Implementation Plan" systematically deploys 18 key tasks and clarifies new 512 targets. By 2027, "5G + Industrial Internet" will be widely integrated into key industry sectors of the real economy, with comprehensive improvement in network infrastructure, technology products, integration applications, industry ecology, and public services in five areas, building 10,000 5G factories, developing no less than 20 pilot cities for "5G + Industrial Internet" integration applications, and promoting "5G + Industrial Internet" to innovate and develop on a broader, deeper, and higher level.
