First Collaboration with Angelica Lee: 'Brought Together by Fate' Shu Qi Reveals the Director's 'Conspiracy'

Starring Shu Qi, Angelica Lee, and Fu Mengbo, the Netflix original series "The Scooping" is the only Chinese-language work selected for the On Screen section at the 30th Busan International Film Festival this year, and held its global premiere and post-screening talk at the Busan Cinema Center on the 18th.

This is their first collaboration. Shu Qi laughed and said she and Angelica Lee share an adorable similarity—they both made movies from the same ghost film series. "It feels like fate brought us together. When filming 'The Scooping,' I wondered if it was a deliberate conspiracy of the directors that we had to shoot a highly emotional rooftop scene right at the start. But after shooting that scene, we became really close."

The director humorously responded, "Mainly, our budget was limited, so we could only shoot that scene first." Shu Qi praised Angelica Lee as a very professional and powerful actress.

Shu Qi believes that the emotional struggles between the mother and daughter in the story, and the tangled feelings of trust and support—but also conflict—between women is a major highlight of "The Scooping." Angelica Lee shared: "Though a lot of tragic things happen to Zhao Jing (played by Angelica Lee), she is not defeated. I hope that after watching this series, women can find strength."
