Second Tour’s First Stop: Yi Hui in Tears on Stage as She Sees Family and Fans

21-year-old rising Malaysian healing vocalist Yi Hui (YiHuiK) returned to her hometown for a concert Friday night, kicking off the show at Zepp KL with “Galaxy and Stars.” This “Twenty-One Possibilities” tour marks the first stop of her second tour, and seeing her family and fans in the audience, Yi Hui was moved to tears on stage.

Yi Hui first shot to fame online after her cover of “The One I Love at 105°C” went viral on Douyin. She quickly became an established internet musician. For her second tour, she insisted on having Malaysia as the first stop, saying, “Actually, I wanted to perform back home last year, but various reasons delayed it until this year, so I definitely had to make my hometown the first stop.”

The concert’s theme, “Twenty-One Possibilities,” symbolizes her endless exploration in life and music. Yi Hui joked that she was so nervous on stage that her “mind went blank” and had to rely on the teleprompter to help out, but also encouraged fans: “As long as you dare to take the first step, you’ll find it’s actually not that hard.”

Throughout the night, Yi Hui performed many songs such as “Darwin,” “If So,” “Wheat Waves,” “After Tomorrow,” as well as her brand new single “Possibility,” and interacted with the audience. However, the crowd’s response was somewhat lukewarm, prompting her to cheekily say, “Aiyoh, this won’t do, next time when I come back I want to hear you all singing along!” While performing “Go Home When It’s Cold,” she admitted that currently studying in China often keeps her from returning home, so singing this song always makes her miss her family even more.

One of her new and as-yet-unnamed works, “YiHui,” is her most personal piece, expressing her sensitive self, inner struggles, and self-doubt, forming together her unique identity. After singing, she wiped away tears several times, choking up as she thanked her family who came all the way from Johor Bahru and fans who traveled from different places to support her.

On another note, Yi Hui also invited two special guests to share the stage: fellow Malaysian online singer Ling Hui and Zou Peipei from China. Zou Peipei interacted with the audience in Mandarin, which she picked up on the spot, and thanked Yi Hui for having her as a guest at her Chengdu concert, so this time she specially came to Malaysia to return the favor, serving as a guest and taking the chance to travel, and also looked forward to more musical collaborations in the future. At the concert’s close, Yi Hui used her song “To You” from the Chinese variety show “The Treasured Voice 6” as the evening’s perfect ending.
