(Miri, 4th) In the early hours of Monday, a two-storey rental residence in Miri caught fire, with the entire building consumed by flames. Fortunately, all eight occupants inside managed to escape safely, and no injuries were reported.
The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department stated that at 1:28 a.m., they received an emergency alert regarding a fire outbreak in the area of Jalan 1B, Kampung Pujut Sungai Adong.
Firefighters from the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station, supported by the Miri Central Fire and Rescue Station, quickly arrived at the scene; however, by their arrival, the fire had already spread throughout the entire building.
The affected property was a non-permanent two-storey rental house, where two families were residing at the time of the incident. The entire building was ultimately completely destroyed by the blaze.
The firefighters used fire engines and hoses to bring the flames under control and carried out cleanup and cooling work to prevent re-ignition. The fire was contained at around 2 a.m.
All eight residents successfully escaped on their own, with no casualties reported.
A total of 14 firefighters participated in the rescue operation, deploying four fire and rescue vehicles, including fire engines and an emergency medical unit.
The police, Civil Defense Force, and utility company personnel were also present to provide support.
After the scene was confirmed to be safe at 4:40 a.m., the rescue operation officially ended.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the losses are still under investigation.
