(Miri, 4th) Ulu women continue to play a crucial role, becoming important pillars in promoting the continuation of cultural heritage, especially by organizing various community activities that foster unity and cohesion.
Sarawak Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, stated that such activities not only create a lively atmosphere in advance of the Dayak Festival but also serve as vital platforms for community bonding.
He said: “This not only ignites the festive spirit, but also provides a great platform for community members to interact, deepen connections, and strengthen friendships.”
He made these remarks while attending the celebration for the upcoming 2026 Dayak Festival organized by the Miri Ulu Women’s Association (PWOUM) on Saturday night.
He pointed out that such events are more than just social gatherings; they also showcase the community's rich cultural value, traditional heritage, and spirit of unity.
He added that the Dayak Festival is not only a harvest celebration but also symbolizes gratitude, renewal, and community togetherness.
“The Dayak Festival is not just a celebration of harvest, but also a time to give thanks, embrace new beginnings, and strengthen connections among one another.”
“It serves to pass on traditions as well as to reinforce family and community bonds, making the Dayak Festival particularly special in Sarawak, where its spirit of inclusiveness is especially precious.”
