(Miri, 4th) Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Director, Jamli, stated that the "Fire Safety Organization Strengthening Training Competition" not only enhances the emergency response capacity of various units but is also committed to building a community with fire-resilient capabilities (Fire-Resilient Community), further realizing the concept of "fire safety in the hearts of the people."

He made these remarks in his speech last night at the Fire Department Dinner and the awards ceremony for the "Fire Safety Organization Strengthening Training Competition" held at Eastwood Golf & Country Club. The presence of guests such as Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin and Miri Mayor Yii Siew San made the event even more meaningful.

Jamli pointed out that this event, jointly organized by the Sarawak Fire Sports and Welfare Association (PESKEBS) and the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, aligns with the "Malaysia MADANI" concept and the direction of the National Fire and Rescue Policy (DKPN), emphasizing inclusive cooperation, strategic partnerships, and social welfare.

He said that through such training and competitions, not only is the efficiency of fire and rescue services enhanced, but collaboration with various units and venues is also promoted, including hospitals, hotels, factories, shops, and institutions, thereby raising the overall level of fire prevention and emergency response.

"This program also helps to strengthen the connection between the fire department and the community and encourages more NGOs and the public to participate in fire prevention efforts, achieving the shared goal of safeguarding safety for all."

He stated that this competition was held from May 2 to 3, attracting a total of 76 teams and about 760 participants from the Northern Zone (Miri and Limbang). Participating units covered categories such as hospitals, offices, public places, hotels, shops, factories, and warehouses.

The competition events included "Iron Jaws," which tested the accuracy of equipment operation, "Gear-Up Rush," which tested the speed of personal protective equipment (PPE) donning, as well as "Rus Duo," "Titans Rush," and "Fire Endurance," which combined physical fitness and obstacle challenges.

Jamli stated that the competition not only improved the professional abilities of Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) but also cultivated discipline, efficiency, and stress resistance to handle various emergencies.

He added that Eastwood Golf & Country Club was the champion in 2022, while in 2024, Miri Port Authority took the title. The next competition is expected to be held in June 2026 in the Southern Zone, covering Kuching, Samarahan, and Sri Aman.

In addition, the organizers plan to create an exclusive brand for this type of practical fire training, and are considering changing to a biennial event to continuously enhance the disaster preparedness of all units.

Jamli also congratulated all the winning teams in his speech and encouraged those who did not win to continue their efforts, apply what they have learned in the workplace, and work together to create a safer society.
