Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Finnish Prime Minister Orpo, who is on an official visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Xi Jinping met with Orpo at the Great Hall of the People on the morning of the 27th. Xi Jinping pointed out that Finland is one of the earliest countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. Over the 76 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, regardless of changes in the international situation, China-Finland relations have always developed steadily, adhering to mutual respect, equality, a future-oriented approach, and win-win cooperation. Both the Chinese and Finnish peoples are known for their tenacity and indomitable spirit. The two sides should deepen mutual trust, enhance exchanges, broaden cooperation, contribute to the development of their respective countries, and bring more benefits to their peoples.

Xi Jinping further stated that today’s world faces multiple risks and challenges, and the international community needs to work together to address them. Major powers, in particular, should lead by example in upholding equality, the rule of law, cooperation, and integrity. China is willing to work together with Finland to firmly uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law, jointly address global challenges, and promote a more equal and orderly multipolar world as well as inclusive and beneficial economic globalization. He said that China and Europe are partners, not rivals; their cooperation exceeds competition and their consensus outweighs differences. He hopes Finland will play a constructive role in promoting the healthy and stable development of China-Europe relations.

According to the Chinese side, Orpo stated that Finland firmly adheres to the one-China policy. The constructive development of EU–China relations is of great importance. Finland advocates for Europe’s strategic autonomy, supports free trade, and is willing to actively contribute to the proper resolution of trade frictions between Europe and China and to the sound and healthy development of bilateral relations.
