What is being called China’s “longest Spring Festival in history” is coming up next month, but according to flight information system “Flight Manager” data, as of January 26, all flights on 49 China-Japan airline routes have been canceled for February.

In 2026, the Chinese New Year holiday will be from February 15th to February 23rd, with a total of 9 days off including adjusted rest days.

According to Hangzhou Daily, in January, the cancellation rate of flights from China to Japan reached 47.2%, an increase of 7.8 percentage points compared to December 2025.

Beijing News pointed out that on January 26, Chinese airlines such as Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, Xiamen Air, and Shandong Airlines successively updated special announcement notices regarding Japan-related flight tickets. The notices stated that for travel involving flights to, from, or via Japan (including stopovers) up to and including October 24, 2026, free refunds and changes are offered.

On the 26th, the Consular Department of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a notice reminding Chinese citizens to avoid traveling to Japan during the Spring Festival. The notice stated that in recent times, social security in Japan has been unstable and there has been a surge in crimes targeting Chinese citizens. Some regions have also experienced consecutive earthquakes causing injuries, and the Japanese government has issued warnings about subsequent quakes. “Chinese citizens in Japan are facing serious security threats.”
