(Kuching, 3rd) The 20th Nanyang University Global Alumni Reunion, scheduled to take place in Kuching from July 17th to 19th, is expected to be the largest ever, with over 1,250 alumni from around the world already registered to attend.
Registration for the event opened on January 1st, with an initial quota of 1,000 participants who could register online, and an additional 100 spots reserved for alumni from Sarawak.
The response was overwhelmingly enthusiastic, and all spots were snapped up within just four days.
To meet this unprecedented demand, the organizing committee formed by the Sarawak Nanyang University Alumni Association has rented an additional hall at the Imperial Hotel.
The second venue will be equipped with three television screens for simultaneous live broadcast of event activities, adding 300 more spots and increasing the total event capacity to 1,300 participants.
Accommodation for the event will be arranged across three hotels: Imperial Hotel (270 rooms, which also serves as the main event venue and accommodation), Grand Margherita Hotel (250 rooms), and Riverside Majestic Hotel.
The event will kick off with a welcome dinner on the evening of July 17th, followed by the main highlight on July 18th, "Nanyang University Night," which is expected to showcase about seven hours of cultural performances.
In addition to three Dayak dances that highlight Sarawak's indigenous culture, the rest of the programs will be presented by Nanyang University alumni themselves.
The organizers have also invited the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, to be the guest of honor for the event.
Organizing committee chairman David Wong Siew Chow said yesterday: "We have chosen to host this grand event in Kuching once again to express our gratitude to the late Mr. Tan Lark Sye for founding Nanyang University."
He said: "We cherish the enthusiastic participation of Nanyang alumni and will do our utmost to ensure everyone comes with joy and leaves with fond memories."
He also hopes that the state government will provide encouragement and assistance.
