(Miri, 29th) Miri Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man stated that he has contacted the Prime Minister's Political Secretary, Dato' Ahmad Farhan, to report on the latest situation of the landslide accident in Miri, which has resulted in multiple fatalities. Additionally, it reflects the floods occurring in several areas of Sarawak.
He emphasized that the disaster areas urgently need emergency aid, including financial support, logistical rescue, and other essentials, to help the landslide and flood victims. In this regard, the Prime Minister's Political Secretary has understood the situation and promised to coordinate aid measures as soon as possible to ensure the wellbeing, safety, and basic needs of the affected residents are properly managed.
At the same time, he also contacted the office of Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi, requesting the Malaysian Minerals and Geoscience Department to conduct a detailed investigation of the geological disaster in Kampung Lereng Bukit and Kampung Haji Wahed and provide relevant suggestions to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
He said that currently, all parties are doing their utmost to rescue and assist the disaster victims. He also took this opportunity to express the highest gratitude to all government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and volunteers for their contributions to the rescue operations and humanitarian aid. He hopes that everyone will continue to work together to alleviate the suffering of the victims and help them overcome this difficulty.
Meanwhile, he also called on everyone to pray together, hoping that the disaster will subside soon and life will return to normal.
