(Kuching, 3rd) Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim, stated that the BCCK2 expansion project and the 2028 International Water Association (IWA) World Water Congress & Exhibition mark the next phase of development for Sarawak’s business events industry. To continue driving this growth momentum, stronger cross-sector collaboration will be key.
In his statement, he pointed out that as Sarawak prepares to host larger international business events and expand its convention and hotel hospitality infrastructure, cooperation between the government, industry players, and strategic partners will become increasingly important.
During a courtesy call from the Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) delegation, Abdul Karim said: “Our top priority is to strengthen partnerships within the business events ecosystem, while continuously enhancing Sarawak’s tourism and hospitality capabilities to ensure that every event delivers an outstanding experience for delegates and creates greater value for the economy and the community.”
The BESarawak delegation, led by Chairman Dato Sri Christopher Abok, reported to Abdul Karim on the industry’s latest developments, upcoming international events, and plans to reinforce Sarawak’s position as the ‘Legacy Capital’ of business events in Malaysia and Borneo.
Dato Sri Christopher Abok noted that Sarawak continues to attract more regional and international business events each year, reflecting the strong support from various government departments, organizations, associations, and private sector partners.
He said: “As we welcome BCCK2 and major events such as the 2028 International Water Association World Water Congress & Exhibition, everyone must continue to work hand in hand to ensure these opportunities bring long-term benefits to Sarawak.”
He also expressed his gratitude to the Sarawak government and tourism, hospitality, and industry partners for their long-term support and investment in the business events industry.
On the other hand, BESarawak Chief Executive Officer Jason stated that the agency will continue to play a bridging role, connecting event organizers with government, industry, and academia to ensure that conferences not only attract attendees but also deliver tangible economic, social, and knowledge outcomes.
He said BESarawak will continue in the future to strengthen local industry capacity through capability building programs, strategic partnerships, and innovative projects.
This courtesy call also reaffirmed the commitment of the Sarawak government and BESarawak to strengthening collaboration within the business events ecosystem in support of the implementation of the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
