(Miri, 3rd) – The Federation of Chinese Associations of Miri Division (Miri Chinese Federation) will hold the 2026 Oil Town Chinese Cultural Festival on September 12 (Saturday) from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the Eastwood Golf Club Water Music Corridor, with the aim of promoting Chinese culture, encouraging cultural inheritance, and strengthening the unity of the local Chinese community.
The Federation held a press conference and networking session for the 2026 Oil Town Chinese Cultural Festival yesterday afternoon at the Tanjong Club, where representatives from various affiliated associations gathered to discuss the festival's preparations and officially released details of this year's event.
Acting President of the Federation and Chairman of the Festival Organizing Committee, Bengkulu Pang Fong Kim, stated that this year’s cultural festival offers a rich and diverse range of programs, covering culture, art, cuisine, and parent-child activities. Highlights include the 2026 Oil Town Chinese Cultural Festival Gala, the Mayor Yu Xiaoshan Cup Chinese Crosstalk Competition and Open Recital for North Sarawak Primary and Secondary Schools, the Datuk Chen Chaoyao Cup Poetry Recital Competition for North Sarawak Primary and Secondary Schools, a showcase of signature dishes from local associations, a display of the 'Eight Chinese Elegances' culture: Qin (music), Chess, Calligraphy, Painting, Poetry, Wine, Flowers, and Tea, as well as a Mid-Autumn Coloring Contest.
She mentioned that each program is organized by a different working committee. The Cultural Festival Gala is chaired by Lee Te Yi; the crosstalk and poetry recital competitions are managed by Xu Jia Shun; the signature food showcase is overseen by Huang You Fang; the 'Eight Chinese Elegances' exhibit is managed by Fang Xiao Sheng; and the Mid-Autumn Coloring Contest is organized by Lee Jin Fa.
Pang Fong Kim also called on all member associations, youth groups, women's groups, members, and their families to enthusiastically participate in the festival on September 12, to bring relatives and friends to sample signature dishes from the various associations and to enjoy the wonderful cultural programs, jointly supporting the very first Oil Town Chinese Cultural Festival.
She noted that there will be multiple food stalls at the festival, welcoming the public to try special delicacies from different hometown associations and to share in this cultural feast.
Additionally, on August 30 (Sunday) at 6:00 pm, the festival will hold its Launch Ceremony at the Miri Fan-shaped Park, chaired by Chen Yuexiu, which will include the lighting ceremony of the 'Cheng·Qi' Hundred Surnames Memorial Monument, symbolizing the perpetuation and renewal of Chinese culture. The Mayor of Miri, Yu Xiaoshan, will serve as the guest of honor to inaugurate this year’s festivities.
