(Miri, 2nd) Sarawak Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Khim Shin, stated that since its establishment in 2005, the Miri Palliative Care Association has been dedicated to providing care and companionship to patients and their families. Now, it further plans to build the first hospice care center in Northern Sarawak, in order to expand its care services and benefit even more patients in need.
He said this project is very meaningful, with a fundraising goal of RM5 million to construct the first hospice care center in the northern part of Sarawak. He called on the public to actively support the initiative, whether through donations, volunteer participation, or promotion and advocacy—all are vital forces in advancing this noble cause.

“Let us work together to ensure every patient receives care, dignity, and warmth in the final stage of their life.”
Lee Khim Shin delivered these remarks, read on his behalf by his representative, Phang Xiao Fong, at the Miri Palliative Care Association’s 20th Anniversary Charity Dinner held last night at the Imperial Palace Hotel’s banquet hall. He was unable to attend in person due to official commitments.

He said that, looking back over the past 20 years, the Miri Palliative Care Association has grown from its beginnings in Miri Hospital into an independent center located in the Miri commercial area, providing home palliative care services to over 200 patients each year.
“This non-governmental, self-funded organization, comprised of volunteers and professional teams, upholds a ‘people-oriented’ spirit, offering care and comfort to patients and their families during the most difficult times.”
He also praised the association for demonstrating resilience and innovation during the COVID-19 pandemic by continuing to provide palliative aid through digital services, reflecting the team’s love, dedication, and professionalism.

“I’m honored to participate in and witness this meaningful journey. The Miri Palliative Care Association (PCAM) is not only a symbol of medical care, but also an embodiment of humanitarian spirit and social compassion.”
He added that the construction of a hospice center can not only broaden the scope of care but also enhance the organization’s service capacity, so that, in the future, more patients can spend their final days with dignity in a caring environment.
“Let’s work together to build a warmer, more loving community so that care services can benefit all who need them.”
He also extended his highest gratitude to all directors and volunteers of the Miri Palliative Care Association, thanking them for their selfless dedication and continued efforts over the past 20 years, which have brought hope and comfort to countless patients and families.
