Yu Xiaoshan: Working Together to Promote Healthy Living – Hospital Charity Run Unites the Community

(Miri, 2nd) Miri Mayor Yu Xiaoshan stated that the Miri Hospital Charity Run is not just a sports event, but also symbolizes the exhibition of community unity, health awareness, and a spirit of gratitude.
He said that this event reflects the shared goal of all people supporting the medical team and promoting a healthy lifestyle, allowing the public to express gratitude through practical action for the efforts and dedication medical staff have made to the community.
Yu Xiaoshan made these remarks during his speech at last night’s flag-off ceremony for the “5th Miri Hospital Charity Run 2025” held at the City Council Building.
On behalf of the Miri City Council, he congratulated the organizers—Miri Hospital, Miri Oil Town Rotary Club, and the Miri Branch of the Sarawak Bar Association—and thanked Dato’ Chen Chaoyao for his continuous support of community health initiatives.

“This year’s charity run coincides with the 30th anniversary of Miri Hospital’s founding. This is not only a time to celebrate, but also to pay tribute to all medical staff and thank you for guarding lives, treating patients, and supporting families over the years.”
He pointed out that the significance of this charity run is not limited to physical exercise, but is also an event to promote health and enhance community cohesion.
“At the same time, the event also delivers the important message of breast cancer prevention and awareness. We must remember that early detection saves lives. Let us continue to care for, support, and encourage one another.”
Yu Xiaoshan encouraged all participants—whether running, jogging, or walking—that every step is a symbol of moving towards a healthier and more resilient Miri.
