On the 2nd, Canadian Prime Minister Carney vowed to lead the largest economic transformation since the end of World War II, enabling Canada to "stand up to counter" U.S. President Trump.
In his first press conference after the election, he stated firmly, "Entering politics is to achieve something great, not to secure a position."
He said, "Now Canadians have given me the power to bring about significant change quickly, and I will spare no effort to fulfill this trust."
He pointed out that handling the tensions between Canada and the United States is his top priority and announced that he will visit the U.S. on the 6th to meet with Trump to discuss trade and security issues.
He reiterated that the old relationship between Canada and the U.S., "based on steadily deepening integration," is over.
He stated that Canadians chose him "to stand up to Trump." Trump "respects strength," which is why he is prepared to undertake sweeping reforms in Canada.
Carney led the Liberal Party to victory in the election on April 28. Although the Liberals did not win the 172-seat majority needed to control parliament, they have secured 168 seats, putting them in a favorable position to pass legislation.
