(Miri, 18th) — Curtin University Library was bustling with excitement recently as 26 students from SK Sayed Othman participated in the 'Beyond Books: The Story Steps Boot Camp,' using fun activities to ignite imagination, storytelling abilities, and a lifelong interest in reading.
Notably, six Curtin University student volunteers served as facilitators and mentors throughout the event, guiding the primary school students with enthusiasm and creativity. This not only motivated the children’s passion for learning but also gave the university students a chance to develop their leadership and community service skills.

Jacinta Richard Seling, teacher and Highly Immersive Programme Coordinator at SK Sayed Othman, stated that this activity was "an exemplary partnership in promoting lifelong learning," and was pleased to see librarians, lecturers, and university students engaging sincerely with the children, inspiring their potential.
Department of General Studies lecturer Farahezza Hairon Nizar emphasized the far-reaching significance of such activities, stating: "Our students are planting seeds of hope and inspiration that will grow far beyond the classroom. The true value of education lies not only in academic results but in the impact it creates."
Christina Urai Dang, Head of Library and Learning Commons at Curtin University, pointed out that the library's function is more than just storing books; it is a place for discovery, imagination, and connection. “Seeing the children so excited reminds us again of the meaning behind our work. It is particularly gratifying to see university students and staff working together to create such a positive experience.”
The 'Beyond Books' Story Boot Camp reflects Curtin University’s commitment to enhancing literacy, nurturing creativity, and promoting community involvement, laying the foundation for future collaborations between schools and the university, and continuing to bring the joy of learning to the youth of Miri and beyond.
