Hong Kong star Alex Fong’s wife, Maple Ip (叶萱), previously appeared in the documentary In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal, bravely exposing the evil deeds of a Korean cult. Having emerged from her trauma, she married Alex Fong this year and is now preparing to become a mother. Recently, on a web program, Alex Fong admitted that he initially didn’t let his family know about Maple’s past, but after his mother found out, her reaction was deeply moving.
In the latest episode of Red Teahouse, Alex Fong shared his reasons for deciding to get married. He revealed that both he and his parents are not getting any younger and he wished for his parents to enjoy the happiness of grandchildren. He also felt that Maple was a truly unique person, and that their values were very much aligned, which led him to decide to enter into marriage with her.
Did the cult incident affect their relationship? Alex Fong admitted that Maple told him about it before they started dating. Later, when their relationship progressed, he initially didn’t tell his family, waiting for a mature and suitable moment before informing his parents.
Alex Fong revealed that his mother was not only very supportive of Maple but even hugged her and said, “No matter what happens between you and my son in the future, I will always treat you as my daughter.” This scene made Alex Fong feel a great sense of relief, as well as being very touched. His father is equally fond of his soon-to-be daughter-in-law, often picking restaurants based on Maple’s preferences when dining out. The whole family enjoys a very harmonious relationship.
