(Bandar Seri Begawan, 25th) A 25-year-old local man has been fined over BND 10,000 for possessing smuggled alcoholic beverages. He faces a jail term of 10 months and 8 days for failing to pay the fine.
The Deputy Chief Magistrate was informed on Monday that the accused, a Malay man, faced four charges, violating the Excise Order 2006 and the Customs Order 2006. These violations occurred on October 2, 2023, when customs officers discovered the contraband at the Sungai Tujoh checkpoint.
The first charge involved possession of a packet of cigarettes, three e-cigarette cartridges, and a bottle of e-cigarette liquid; the second charge involved possession of an e-cigarette accessory; the third charge was for possessing 18 cans and two bottles of various alcoholic drinks; the fourth charge involved unauthorized possession of 5.9 kilograms of raw chicken wings.
The court ordered all seized items to be confiscated and destroyed.
