KUCHING: Malaysians have been urged to use Mother’s Day to strengthen family bonds and show greater appreciation for mothers and wives for their sacrifices and unconditional love.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said Mother’s Day should serve as a meaningful occasion for families to express gratitude and respect towards mothers.
“Although we love our mothers every day, let us use Mother’s Day as a special day dedicated to them,” she told reporters at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here today (May 9).
She also encouraged husbands to appreciate the role and sacrifices of their wives as mothers within the family institution.
“To husbands, show your love and appreciation to your wives who have become mothers to our children,” she said.
Nancy said this year’s National Mother’s Day celebration would be held tomorrow (Sunday, May 10) and officiated by the Raja Permaisuri of Perak at Dewan Tun Hussein Onn.
The celebration carries the national theme ‘Seteguh Kasih Ibu’.
She added that various activities had been planned nationwide in conjunction with the celebration, including a special drama presentation on TV Okey tomorrow night (Sunday).
“All states will organise programmes in conjunction with Mother’s Day throughout this month, God-willing,” she said.
Nancy also revealed that an Inspirational Mother Award would be presented as part of the celebration, with further details to be announced later.
