LUNDU: A total of 100 people in the Tanjong Datu constituency area received food basket assistance as part of an initiative to ease the burden of families in need ahead of the Chinese New Year celebration.

The contribution programme on Saturday supported by Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN), aimed not only to provide essential food supplies but also to strengthen community solidarity and support for vulnerable groups across the constituency.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the initiative reflects the spirit of togetherness and mutual assistance that has long been the foundation of Sarawak’s multiracial society.

“It is hoped that this contribution will, in some way, help ease the burden of the recipients while reflecting the spirit of togetherness and mutual assistance that is the strength of our multiracial community.

“The Local Social Support Centre (PSSS) tagline “Kamek Nengar, Kamek Nulong” is not merely words, but reflects our commitment to listen with empathy and to help with sincerity, regardless of race or religion,” she said.

She said this in her speech during the Mindness Tour Kaunseling Kasih PSSS programme themed “Kamek Nengar, Kamek Nulong” together with Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN) and handover of food baskets in conjunction with Chinese New Year at Dewan Mahligai Gading here on Saturday.

Nancy also expressed appreciation to YKN for its support in providing food baskets to residents in need within the constituency.

She added that the programme also served as a platform to introduce the Local Social Support Centre (PSSS), which offers psychosocial support services and promotes mental well-being among community members.

Residents were encouraged to engage with registered counsellors present at the event to seek emotional support and assess their stress levels.

The initiative is expected to not only provide immediate relief but also raise awareness on the importance of mental health and access to community-based support services.
