Nafisah: Teachers Should Maintain Consistency to Strengthen Professionalism in Education

(Bintulu, 10th) Bintulu Deputy Education Department (Learning Unit) Deputy Director Nafisah Rosli stated that in the face of various challenges in the current educational environment, teachers must always be committed to upholding and strengthening professionalism in education—these challenges require teachers to possess strong mental, physical, and emotional resilience.
She said that the Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) Diamond Jubilee Celebration is not only to mark its 60th anniversary, but also symbolizes an important milestone of the unwavering spirit of teachers in Sarawak, especially in Bintulu.
“Significant challenges faced by teachers include work pressure, changes in curriculum and technology, students’ behavior and learning motivation, as well as high expectations from society,” she said.
She made these remarks last Saturday, representing Bintulu Education Department Director Samri Suhaili, while attending the opening ceremony of the Bintulu District STU Diamond Jubilee Karaoke Competition held at Bintulu Avenue Shopping Mall.
Nafisah pointed out that teachers’ work involves not only teaching but also handling paperwork, extracurricular activity programs, and school administrative matters, while also having to adapt to new teaching approaches and the integration of technology in classroom (PdP).
Therefore, she emphasized that teachers should possess forward-looking thinking to cultivate students’ critical thinking, problem-solving skills, creativity, effective communication abilities, and stress resistance.
At the same time, Nafisah also advised educators to learn to manage work stress, balance career and personal life, value teamwork, and handle their emotions positively.
“Some of the methods include spending time with family, developing hobbies, sharing workload with colleagues, and participating in relaxation or artistic activities—such as the karaoke competition, which not only provides entertainment but also helps to relieve stress,” she said.
The competition saw a total of 20 participants, including STU Bintulu members and non-members. In the end, Mohd Lutfi @ Let Upit won first place, Siti Salmiyah Samsudin was the runner-up, third place went to Ezra Elviana, while fourth and fifth were Taif Ezwan Yusuf and Rosma, respectively.
