Liu Yaqiang: Everyone is Equal Before the Law, Enforce the Law Without Double Standards to Prevent Damaging Government Credibility

Datuk Liu Yaqiang, Vice President of MCA, questioned the Ministry of Education's supervision mechanism regarding the mistake of displaying a "double star and eight-stripe" error in the national flag on the SPM results analysis report. He urged law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident based on the principle of "everyone is equal before the law," and not to downplay it just because it involves a government department.

“This document was issued by the Ministry of Education and is directly related to national examination results and the image of education. Such an error should not occur at this juncture.”

Liu Yaqiang pointed out that if a similar mistake had been published by private media, law enforcement agencies would often intervene immediately, summoning the responsible persons and senior officials for questioning, even initiating investigation procedures.

“When similar mistakes involving the national flag appeared in the media previously, relevant agencies quickly took action and initiated investigations. Now that a government agency has made a similar mistake, the public naturally expects law enforcement to uphold consistent standards without bias.”

He reminded that law enforcement must not employ double standards, as it would seriously undermine public trust in the government’s credibility.

Liu Yaqiang also criticized the incident, highlighting the lack of basic sensitivity and responsibility among Ministry of Education officials when handling public documents, and pointed out that the supervision system and review mechanisms are virtually non-existent.

He called on the government to take this matter seriously, not only by tracking down those responsible for the mistake but also by reviewing the workflows and approval systems of relevant units to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future, which would damage public confidence in the education system and national institutions.
