A 21-year-old Chinese girl, Chi Guangying, recently traveled alone to Egypt and subsequently lost contact with her family, who then sought assistance. On the 30th, Egypt's Ministry of the Interior announced that she had been arrested on suspicion of involvement in telecom fraud.
According to Red Star News, Chi Guangying arrived in Egypt on August 9, and her family found her missing on September 21. By the 27th, Chi Guangying’s mother stated that, with the help of local Chinese people and the embassy in Egypt, they had managed to find out her whereabouts.
Police Discovered Firearms, Bladed Weapons, Tasers at Their Hideout
On its official social media account on the 30th, Egypt's Ministry of the Interior issued a statement regarding news circulating on some social media accounts about a Chinese female tourist having gone missing inside Egypt. After investigation and verification, the Chi-named tourist and several others were found to be suspected members of a criminal group specializing in electronic fraud and have been lawfully detained. This group allegedly lured victims to Egypt under the guise of e-commerce jobs, but once they arrived, kidnapped and forced them to contact their families to pay ransom through electronic platforms.
The police located and arrested them in a residential apartment in the First Settlement area, where they seized firearms, bladed weapons, tasers, as well as several mobile phones containing evidence of their criminal activities.
The Individual Had Gone to Egypt in Search of Development Opportunities
Chi Guangying's mother said that her daughter excelled at geography and history since childhood and was very interested in Egyptian culture and the pyramids. After graduating from university and not yet finding a desired job, she planned to go to Egypt, partly to see the pyramids in person and also to explore local opportunities for potential personal development.
