(Malay Open, 19th) — On December 17, 2025, enforcement officers from the Brunei Muara District Office of the Department of Labour conducted an inspection operation codenamed “Operation Wasp 240/2025” on Jalan Kaya National, aiming to enforce and ensure employers comply with the Employment Order.
During an inspection of a fast food restaurant, the Department of Labour found that the establishment had violated Section 278 of the Employment Order, involving four employees with a total of three infractions. These three violations are: Section 64 (working on rest days); Section 70 (not granting employees leave on public holidays); and Section 112(2) (breaching conditions of foreign worker recruitment permit, specifically that a labour position holder was working as a cashier).
For violations of Section 278 of the Employment Order, further investigation will be conducted. If found guilty, the employer may be fined up to 1,000 dollars for each offence. If the employer refuses to pay the fine, they will be prosecuted.
The Department of Labour reminds employers to always follow the provisions of Chapter 278 of the Employment Order and pay attention to matters concerning employee welfare, such as timely payment of wages, providing leave on public holidays, granting sick leave certified by a doctor, safeguarding employees’ annual leave rights, and providing return air tickets for employees whose contract has expired.
