Miri Division Primary School English Choral Speaking Competition: 17 Schools, 373 Teachers and Students Participate

(Miri, 9th) The Sarawak Oil Palm Group Foundation (SOP Foundation) sponsored the “2026 Miri Division Primary School English Choral Speaking Competition,” once again demonstrating its commitment to promoting educational development and supporting youth growth.

This competition was recently held at the Miri Civic Center, attracting 373 students and teachers from 17 primary schools across the Miri Division, creating a lively atmosphere.

The SOP Foundation has continuously supported the English choral speaking competition over the years, providing students with a meaningful learning platform to enhance their confidence, creativity, teamwork, and communication skills. Just a day before the competition, the foundation also sponsored the Miri Division Secondary School English Choral Speaking Competition, further expanding its support for the English development of students at different educational stages.

On the competition day, students from each school delivered lively and impressive performances, fully demonstrating their creativity, team spirit, and English communication skills. The panel of judges comprised experienced evaluators, who provided valuable feedback after the event to encourage students to further improve their language skills and stage presence.

The competition results are as follows:
Champion: SK Jalan Bintang, Miri
First Runner-up: SJK Chung Hua Miri
Second Runner-up: SJK Chung Hua Pujut, Miri
Fourth Place: SK Temenggong Datuk Muip
Fifth Place: SK Pujut Corner

In addition, the Best Conductor Award was won by Helsalynne Vusaq Holinsin from SJK Chung Hua Pujut, Miri, in recognition of her outstanding leadership, coordination, and conducting skills.

The Best Script Award went to SK Temenggong Datuk Muip for their script's rich creativity and excellent use of English.

Attendees included representatives from the Miri Division Education Department, among them Grispin Anak Sahah, Deputy District Education Officer of the Student Development Unit, as well as SOP Foundation representative Lim Chang Rong.

In his speech, Grispin Anak Sahah thanked the SOP Foundation for its sponsorship and support, pointing out that the foundation's contributions help encourage students to build confidence from a young age and strengthen their English proficiency.

Lim Chang Rong, representing the SOP Foundation, stated in his speech that education has always been at the core of the foundation's community service, and through activities such as choral speaking, the goal is to cultivate students' confidence, creativity, teamwork, and communication skills, laying a solid foundation for the future.

He also praised the efforts and enthusiasm of all participating students, teachers, and schools, and expressed hope to continue supporting more educational projects that inspire and nurture the next generation.

The SOP Foundation also congratulated all participating schools, teachers, and students for their excellent performance, and pledged to continue supporting activities that promote learning, creativity, and outstanding achievement.
