(Kuching, 19th) Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, has proposed establishing a specialized agency related to renewable energy in Sarawak to train and cultivate local renewable energy experts.

As a Senior Vice President of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), he mentioned today during the party's Southern Sarawak regional assembly in Kuching that the establishment of this agency is crucial for making renewable energy a part of the state's socio-culture, aligning with the goal of transforming Sarawak into a high-income state by 2030.

"Sarawak's success in achieving a renewable energy capacity structure ratio of 62% in 2024, surpassing the 60% target set in the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) for 2030, showcases the foresight of Sarawak's Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari.

He added that Sarawak’s advancements in hydrogen technology have attracted investments from Japan and Korea, thereby solidifying Sarawak's position as a major hub for the hydrogen economy in Asia.

"The establishment of the renewable energy agency will ensure that the younger generation in Sarawak receives relevant education and training, making renewable energy a vital pillar of Sarawak’s development."

Fadillah stated that political stability under the leadership of the Sarawak Parties Coalition (GPS) and proactive policies were crucial factors in attracting 21.5 billion Ringgit in investments from 2021 to 2023, creating thousands of job opportunities.

He emphasized that vigorously developing renewable energy is not only crucial for Sarawak’s economy but also ensures that Sarawak continues to be a pioneer of green technology in Malaysia and the Asian region.
