(Kuching, 10th) Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari has arrived in Tokyo to begin a two-day official working visit and will be personally conferred the "Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star" by Japanese Emperor Naruhito tomorrow.
According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), this honor is being bestowed by the Japanese government in recognition of Abang Johari’s significant contributions toward strengthening Malaysia-Japan strategic relations. He is also one of the recipients on the Japanese government’s Fall 2025 Honors List announced earlier.
The award is meant to acknowledge Abang Johari’s outstanding efforts in promoting regional exchange and fostering mutual understanding between the two countries.
Abang Johari arrived at Narita International Airport at 8:50 p.m. last night, where he was personally received by Malaysian Ambassador to Japan, Dato’ Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany.
During his visit to Japan, Abang Johari will also deliver an address commemorating the 30th anniversary of cooperation between the Japan-Malaysia Association (JMA) and the Sarawak Forestry Department. This partnership symbolizes three decades of close collaboration in the field of tropical rainforest restoration.
In addition, Abang Johari has played a key role in promoting economic and energy cooperation, excelling particularly in renewable energy sectors such as hydrogen and ammonia. His leadership has also further strengthened Sarawak’s ties with major Japanese enterprises, ensuring long-term energy security through the stable supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
He has also actively driven cooperation between Sarawak and numerous Japanese universities and institutions in areas such as forest conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable development, further solidifying Sarawak’s vision to become a green energy-based economy.
