The Philippine National Police supports a bill aimed at establishing a continuous and coordinated campus safety mechanism to strengthen the protection of students from various security threats and emergencies on campus.
PNP Chief Natatates stated in a Friday announcement that Senate Bill No. 2426, the Comprehensive Campus Safety Act, presented by Senator Bam Aquino, will establish a nationwide campus safety system, and emphasized that police are ready to enhance campus security measures across the country.
He said the police support all initiatives that enhance student safety and are prepared to work closely with the Department of Education and other relevant agencies to ensure schools remain safe and protected learning environments.
Natatates pointed out that this measure is also in line with the directives of President Marcos Jr. and Secretary of the Interior Benhur Abalos, to strengthen student protection and ensure police units nationwide are equipped to prevent and respond to campus threats.
He said the proposed bill aims to institutionalize campus safety plans through prevention, response, and post-disaster recovery measures, and provide ongoing funding support.
Relevant measures include conducting risk assessments and safety training, establishing emergency response procedures, regularly holding safety drills, and providing psychosocial and mental health support to affected students, families, and school staff.
Natatates emphasized that campus safety must encompass prevention, timely response, and support at three levels.
He stated that the police will continue to strengthen campus police deployment, threat assessment, emergency preparedness, and coordination with school authorities.
The bill also aligns with ongoing campus safety measures promoted by the Department of Education and the Philippine National Police, including campus safety awareness campaigns, enhanced campus inspections, visitor management, and increased police patrols.
